Powder Puff Derby

Lauren participated in her first Girl Scout Powder Puff Derby on April 2.  We were out of town last year during the derby so I had no idea what to expect.  Between Lauren's idea (she wanted to design a car to look like Puddin) and Tracy's talent, they definitely came up with the most unique car in the race!  When I first took it to weigh-in on the night of April 1, the weight of the car was only 3.5 ounces, far less than the maximum (goal) of 5 ounces.  We made a quick trip back home for some last minute adjustments and got back just in time to be the last weigh-in of the night.  The car was EXACTLY 5.0 oz on the second round so we were pretty happy!  The next day, Lauren was excited and got so many compliments on her car.  Each car is in 4 races and her greyhound car came in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the various races!  She was disappointed that she didn't win a medal, but she was still very proud of her car that she and daddy worked so hard to make.  I told her before the races even started that it didn't matter if she came in first or last place, we would always treasure her special Puddin car and keep it forever!  We stayed through all of the Daisy races, but had to leave early (before the Brownies and Juniors) because Lauren also had her first soccer game that afternoon!

Me and my beautiful girls at the derby races!

Very interesting! I did not know that Girl Scouts had a Pine Wood Derby. The greyhound car idea was so unique and I bet it generated a lot of discussion about greyhounds. Now starts the busy years when your children are involved in their many activities, but so much fun for Mom and Dad, too. My granddaughter graduates tomorrow from high school and I will always have so many great memories of sharing her activities with her during her growing up years. Enjoy every minute, because time will fly!
