I'm also thinking about joining the Canon 7D crowd. I'm not sure if I'm good enough for that investment yet though! I was waiting to see if Canon was going to introduce a replacement for the 7D, but I haven't seen anything yet. Of course there are pros (the price of the 7D would drop) and cons (I would suddenly be buying an 'old' camera when a new one with lots of bells and whistles would be staring at me). Either way I will probably be upgrading my camera sometime soon. I just have such beautiful models it's hard not to :) Here are the first of my practice shots, mostly of Puddin which wasn't intentional - she just happened to be in the right spot at the right time. She really wasn't impressed with me though - that's why she looks like she has the woes in a few of them!

Copy Cat
Okay, I admit it, I am a copy cat! After reading posts about the "Nifty Fifty" on ShutterHounds, genjiscorner, and My ROO Spot I wanted to check it out! I ordered the Canon EF 50mm f1.4 lens and have had fun playing with it so far. I have only used it a few times, but I like the results. I got some great pics of Lauren and here are a few I have of the dogs so far. I love that I can use it in our family room (which is very low light) without a flash! No more glowing eyes!

Beautiful shots! Love the Bokeh. Though some may disagree, I say stick with your current camera, and invest in another awesome lens. I think it will make a bigger impact. Just my 2 cents.
The worst people to know are Trina and Gyeong! They made me buy a Canon. If I didn't know them, I'd have more money in the bank. Run run ru—ooooh, bokeh.
Thanks, Gyeong - I do appreciate your 2 cents (even if you are one of the worst people to know)! Ha ha! I've been thinking about it for a few months, and so far I've done exactly what you said. First I decided to actually learn how to use my current camera instead of going full auto all the time and then I got a new lens so we'll see what I decide next! Got any recommendations for another awesome lens? :)
I'm going to have to learn how to use something other than auto on my camera too. You got nice clear inside shots; I have trouble with inside photos.
those photos are gorgeous! I, too, got sucked into the 50 cult and got it for my birthday. However, I rented the 24 mm f1.4 for four days and OMG - it's soooooo awesome! I'm completely smitten with it and didn't want to send it back.
i've had a lot of fun using my 50mm since i bought it last january. (and it's cheap, too!)
it's nice to again have a lens fast enough so you can set the flash aside and just go with the natural light that you already have.
You will love that lens! It is definitely worth the purchase!!
