Chicken From The Basement

It's Basement Chicken. You know, Chicken From The Basement. It's a Basement Delicacy!

We recently ordered an Excalibur Dehydrator. Our first experiment was making chicken jerky for the kids. They love the jerky we had been buying, but I am leary of all consumables from China, especially given questionable reports and FDA warnings. It seems like China makes the entire world anymore, from the complete junk all the way through really nice and expensive products. There are many items that are fine to be made in China, but I am not comfortable with any consumables, such as food or medicine. Anyway...

Step 3:

Off to the basement it goes, and voila! It was a big success with the pups :) M: Is that Basement Chicken?!

YEP!!!

Next up...beef jerky! Tracy has already made some for himself with what he claims was a tasty concoction of bourbon, apple juice, apple cider, brown sugar, and spices. I don't like any type of jerky, but I'm sure Macy and Buford will be very appreciative. Of course, the pups will only get beef without any of the additives. I've also recently discovered that Macy likes dried banana chips so we'll try those sometime too. Macy is the queen of treats! For such a picky girl when it comes to real food, she never turns down a treat! As many people have discovered at M&G's she can sniff out a treat like a pro - whether it's in a pocket, a jacket, or a purse - and is very persistent until she gets one!

You should have seen them sniffing like crazy at the basement door while the dehydrator did it's thing...it was so funny! By the way, if you didn't get my opening line, pay attention to a certain commercial on TV which always makes us laugh!

I'm too lazy to feed my guys a raw diet or actually cook their meals for them. But making chicken jerky doesn't look too bad. My guys love their chicken jerky. It sure looks like Macy approves.
