What A Difference A Grey Makes

Today is Macy's 1st "Gotcha Day"! It's hard to believe that a year has passed so quickly. It seems like she's been in our hearts forever, and her previous "life" seems very distant. I remember nervously and anxiously waiting for her on March 15, 2008. She had quite a long trip from Florida because the hauler broke down on the way and the poor pups were stuck for almost four extra hours! The trip is long enough without any mishaps, but fortunately everyone was safe! There were nine dogs that came up on her haul...and she was the last one to come off the hauler! When she finally stepped out, it was love at first sight!

Macy has blessed us in so many ways! Not long ago, Tracy and I were sitting on the couch watching TV and I said to him "What did we even talk about before greyhounds?". Half joking, but half not! Tracy and I have always had a wonderful relationship and talked to each other all the time, but it's honestly hard to remember what about! Our conversations have changed. Now we tell each other stories about cute things the kids did while one of us was gone...we report to each other who did what on potty breaks...we talk about other greyhounds we have met...and about those still waiting for their "forever home".

Our social lives have changed. We never seemed to have enough time and were always busy before...but, somehow now we have found time to spend many of our weekends volunteering and participating in a variety of greyhound events. We have met many wonderful people united under this great cause of rescuing greyhounds. We have also developed a slight internet addiction to everything greyhound - eBay, YouTube, rescue group sites from all over the country, greyhound merchandise sites, and yes blogging :) We haven't graduated to Facebook or Twitter and have no plans to, we spend enough time on the internet already! We've always been pretty private people and I would have never started a blog before just to talk about our lives. It seemed so vain and we're really not that interesting anyway! However, it's different with greyhounds. I love capturing all of our memories (and reading about yours)!

Macy will always hold a special place in our hearts as our first grey. We look into her captivating eyes and our hearts melt, we watch her silly antics and our hearts laugh, we see her tail wag in her sleep (and get lots of stinky breath kisses when she's awake) and our hearts smile.

We have Macy to thank for bringing us so many wonderful gifts...including our beautiful boy Buford! Macy has no idea that she has done so much, but we try to show her every single day!

Okay, enough sappiness. Here are a few pictures from her haul. When she arrived, she was severely underweight, quiet, and a little timid, yet so full of love.

Stella, Stanley, and Jaime came out for the festivities too. I thought I would include this because the other little one here is Ashley. There were two dogs that were matched up with us - Macy and Ashley. Ashley found herself a wonderful forever home too, but we are so thankful that we chose our baby girl, Macy!

A year later, Macy is still so full of love...but, as you've seen in previous posts, she has flourished and transformed into a spunky little girl full of personality! She's still a pretty picky eater though - at least when it comes to dog food. Oddly, she has an obsession with butter. I had planned to celebrate her big day by making her something special. However, since she stole an entire new, unopened Entenmann's Ultimate Crumb Cake off the counter on Thursday and managed to eat the whole thing (we think by herself since she was the only one slurping water down all night - she must have smelled the butter in the cake), we figured she doesn't need anything else!

Happy Gotcha Day Macy! I do understand the irrestible appeal of Entenmann's crumb cake, but next time you may want to Share with your "Mom" and "Dad". :-)

Happy Gotcha Day Macy! Time flies with Greyhounds. Looks like Macy celebrated a little early. Maybe she just didn't feel like sharing with Buford.

I am glad to know that Kris and I aren't the only ones who can't remember what we used to talk about before the greys. The greys have taken over. There was soccer mom, then hockey mom, but next is greyhound mom :)

Funny story about Macy & the crumb cake! We had a very similar incident here last year. The night before Cider's birthday, she and Chanook pulled leftover pizza off the fridge and had themselves a feast on the living room floor. Needless to say, she did not get a special birthday treat that year since she seemingly chose her own!

Lots of love to Macy & Buford!

Happy Gotcha Day Macy - you may be related to our Drew, a fellow butter thief! He's been caught 3 times in the living room munching on a stick of butter that he sneakily stole off the cutting board as I tried to make dinner and was interrupted by 'someone else'. I think he plans these 'decoy maneuvers' with Garth and Handy.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy your cake in 'piece', er, I mean wholly!

OMG...how could it be a whole year!!!! I remember how THIN she was when she arrived. Macy still holds the pickiest eater title!!! You and Tracy had the patience of a saint.
I'm so happy that you both discovered the greyhounds and how special they are!!!
