Catching Up

It has been over a month since I posted anything so I'm catching up. No, I didn't abandon the blog. We've just had a lot going on....unfortunately, not a lot of good either, but I won't get into that. Through it all though, Macy and Buford have still managed to make us smile and always give us so much love every day!

These are some of the things we've done over the last month or so. Macy is still such a picky eater and after researching dog foods we decided to do a little experiment - buffet style. We lined up 8 brands of kibble to gauge her reaction. The verdict? Well, there did appear to be a clear favorite - California Natural, Chicken flavor.

And definitely a clear loser - coincidentally also California Natural, but the Herring flavor.

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding the California Natural Chicken food (every place I've checked sells only the lamb and herring flavors)....so we're trying out the second pick which was Solid Gold Hund-N-Flocken. We started out just giving it to her as a treat at first to get her used to it and she loved it. Once we moved on to slowly mixing it in with her current food though she started turning her nose up at that too! Ughhh! By the way, the other foods in our experiment were Innova (red meat), Innova EVO (red meat), AvoDerm (oven baked chicken), Califonia Natural (lamb), and Solid Gold Wolf King (bison). So...the saga coninues...maybe it's just a greyhound thing!

A couple weeks ago, I got a few pictures of the first blossoms of our cherry trees - which reminded me of my first date with my husband. Tracy and I used to work together. We met first as co-workers, then became great friends, then went on our first real date on April 7, 2001....to see the Cherry Blossoms in peak bloom around the tidal basin in Washington, DC! If you have never been to DC while the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom, it is truly a spectacular sight! We haven't been back to DC to see them since, but last year we had 5 Yoshino Cherry trees planted in our front yard so now we have a miniature cherry blossom festival of our own :)

We've had lots to look at from our back yard too, including some beautiful sunrises, a hot air balloon, and at times easily 30-40 deer at once (but I don't have any pictures of them).

We had our monthly Meet and Greet. Alex at Hope and Greyz posted pictures a few weeks ago, but here are a few more. Since I host this M&G, Macy is always our donation dog. Sometimes she's a slacker though and lays down on the job!

This is Ginger, a pretty little Spanish Galgo that Debbie brought back from her last trip to Scooby. Ginger now lives with a wonderful family who loves her so much. She was a little nervous at first, but quickly warmed up to everyone at the M&G. Here she is sitting - she looked just like a statue!

Hero came to visit too. I think he likes coming to meet and greet everyone, especially when there are nice people who find that perfect spot :)

We also attended the Lick Canine Cancer fundraiser for The Ohio State University Greyhound Health and Wellness Program. This was the first time we had ever heard Dr. Couto speak. Everyone in the greyhound community has immense respect for him and his endless research to help our beloved greyhounds. He definitely met and surpassed our expectations. He is a phenomenal person and we learned so much! If you have never been to one of his presentations, you should put it high on your to do list. We forgot the camera, but there are a few pictures on the VAGA blog.

Buford cut the pad on his foot. It was just a little cut at first. It was almost completely healed and wouldn't you know, he broke it open again. It was a bigger, deeper cut the second time and we had to wrap his foot to stop him from licking it because it wouldn't stop bleeding. Poor guy - he is such a baby when anything happens to him and he hates having his foot wrapped. He is definitely an accident prone pup!

And one final picture for this post. The memory card on the camera was almost full, but had one more picture that I could take. So, I went outside this morning and got this one of Buford standing by our shed. He's all healed - again! He takes such great photos, he's just so handsome!
