Anyway, on to this post which does have the word happy in it so I better get to it! Just because I haven't been able to post doesn't mean I haven't taken tons of photos lately. Lauren loves to be outside now, she would stay out there all day if she could! The only problem is we have very little shade and I don't want to constantly lather her up with sunscreen, so we've been going out in the late afternoon/early evening when our back yard begins to get shady. Buford and Puddin go out with us and I take the camera and gets lots of photos of all three :) Everyone is happy!
On June 20, we celebrated Buford's 8th Birthday! He is such a goof and still acts like a puppy most of the time. I didn't make him a cake this year, but he got a chicken breast in his breakfast and another one with dinner, plus a new squirrell stuffie. I've been letting him take his stuffies outside with him lately too which he is super excited about - until Puddin comes by and steals them right out of his mouth at least! Every time we go out he has always run to the door with a stuffie, but we generally take it from him at the door. It's not that I care about the toys going out, but he is like a little kid and will completely forget to go potty if he has a stuffed friend with him....plus it's sure to send Puddin into a racing frenzy when she gets a hold of one and sometimes I just don't want her running that hard (like near mealtime or when it feels like it's 100 degrees). When the timing is right though, I let them have at it and they've had lots of fun lately.
On June 29, we will celebrate Buford's 3rd Gotcha Day! We are so thankful that he is in our lives! He has come a long way since his racing days and always makes me smile with his bouncy ways! He is one very lucky fellow to have even made it to rescue. He came from a crummy track and an even crummier kennel and owner. In fact, GPA/Orlando was shocked that the owner even released him to rescue as he was in such bad condition when he arrived. The GPA volunteers could literally wrap their hands around his waist with their fingers overlapping. I know greyhounds are thin, but he was severely underweight and spent almost a year at the GPA rescue kennel just to get healthy enough to be adopted! We learned that his racing kennel had "ran his back off", a racing phrase which basically means they ran him too hard without him being in the proper condition for it. He had lost almost all of his muscle and spent months slowly regaining weight and building his muscle tone back up. He also spent months going through all kinds of testing to make sure that his organs, especially his heart since it is a major muscle, were not affected. Thank goodness for Joan and the GPA/Orlando volunteers for taking care of my boy because I just can't imagine life without him! He is still a mama's boy through and through! He is still Lauren's favorite "dog-dog" too and she is always trying to give him stuff - treats, her toys, his toys, etc. It's very cute.
Well, I think I have rambled enough. Here are a bunch of random pictures I have taken outside with the pups recently.
