Meet and Greets

Meet and Greets have become a family affair around here.  My husband isn't thrilled over it, but I guess he figures it's better than staying home with both kids by himself (and I certainly can't handle 2 dogs, a pre-schooler, and an infant by myself for long - well, at least not while simultaneously talking to potential adopters)!   Lauren has a blast going to "the pet store" (if you tell it's called Petco, she will correct you and claim it is simply "the pet store").  She usually walks around with Daddy looking at all of the animals and petting dogs and then comes back to hang out with me towards the end. Tracy took this picture of us in June.

Our hounds are definitely showing signs of aging though as neither one of them really enjoys meet and greets anymore.  Buford can't stand for very long and his hind legs begin to shake like a leaf on a tree and he is always looking at the door longing for the time when he can leave.  Even with his weak rear end and trembling legs, he would never lay down at a meet and greet - until the last 2-3 months.  In fact, I had to take a picture of the first time I saw it because I was in shock.

Puddin, on the other hand, will lay down anywhere.  However, she has become quite the Greyhound snob!  I have never heard her growl at another Greyhound (unless she got stepped on by one which is understandable), but she growls at other breeds at almost every M&G now!  She's super sweet, lovable, and wants pets and attention, but if a family has another dog with them I have to be very careful so I don't give the wrong impression about the Greyhound as a breed.  At this month's M&G, she growled at another dog who was merely sniffing Buford - it was funny because Puddin was laying down, didn't get up to greet the other dog, and was at least 6 feet away from him, but she growled the second he got close to Buford like she was protecting her brother!

I haven't gone to a meet and greet in a long time. We need to go some time soon because Freedom, Casper & Nikki always enjoy the extra attention.
