Happy Birthday Puddin Pop

The day after Christmas Puddin turned 11!  We celebrated with our usual - chicken liver birthday cake, topped with cream cheese.  The dogs love it!  Before school let out for winter break, Lauren came home one day with a card that she had made at school for Puddin's upcoming birthday.  I thought it was adorable and put it in a drawer to save it for Puddin's birthday.  When her birthday arrived, I got the card out and Lauren said "oh, I forgot, I need to finish it".  It looked good to me and I thought it was done, but I gave it to her to work on some more.  Lauren asked me how to spell the words "more" and "than".  I was in the kitchen at the time and she was sitting at the table, I told her how to spell the words and wondered what she might be writing.  When I saw the finished product, my heart smiled!  Lauren is so sweet and I've wrote about her bond with Puddin many times.  The card was perfect and heartfelt and I will save it forever.

We thought Puddin was doing great and that her immune mediated thrombocytopenia was under control.  We had been lowering her meds for some time with consistent positive results and she was on the lowest doses which was wonderful.  However, for unknown reasons, her platelet count dropped dangerously low and now we have been increasing the meds once again.  I hope we can get her back on track soon!  Aside from getting her platelets in check, she seems to be in great health for her age!  Happy Birthday Puddin Pop!

I decided to throw in one last photo of her from our last trip to the vet.  She is always so calm and relaxed which is great since she has to go so often!  Anyway, the time before last (she's been going weekly for a blood test the last few weeks as we try to get her platelets regulated again) I took her in on a Saturday and they were packed!  There were a couple of emergencies which of course backed up patients for the rest of the day.  The waiting room was full so Puddin thought the scale looked like a comfy spot to rest!  She loves the scale and as soon as we walk through the door she heads over and steps up on it herself!  Odd, I know!  I kept moving her and she kept going back to the scale (laying half on/half off) until we were able to get a seat and then she just flopped down....by far, she's the calmest dog at the vet's office - always!
