The Fence, The Shed, The Gates, Oh My!

The downside of having a puppy, and one that's a smaller breed no less, is that they can fit anywhere!  My husband had lots of work to do the first couple weeks after we got Woody in an effort to keep our baby safe.  Woody kept slipping right the baby gates in the house, rendering them useless!  So Tracy used a piece of clear Plexiglas that I had bought for a photography project a year and half ago, measured, cut, and welded it to fit on the gate that Woody kept going though.  He put a board up at a gate outside that leads down stairs to the basement because I was worried about Woody slipping through the gate and falling to his doom on the concrete.  Tracy spent several days adding an extra board to the bottom of our fence.  The space at the bottom was obviously never an issue with greyhounds, but our tiny pup could slide right under it many places with no problems at all, and he tried.  My biggest concern was probably our shed.  Once again Woody could have easily slipped right under it in spots (and let me tell you, he is fast!  especially if he has something he shouldn't and is running away from you!).  We have had problems with rabbits and groundhogs living under the shed for years.  I always joked that one day the shed is going to collapse from the foundation sinking in due to the number of holes and tunnels that must be under there from those pesky groundhogs.  However, the safety concern over the possibility of Woody falling in a hole and not being able to get out was real.  So, my dear husband has now sealed off around the whole shed so Woody can't run under there.  Two sides are hinged so we still store some stuff like boards under the shed, but mainly so the groundhog can get out if he goes through any tunnels, but is not able to get back in - I thought it was genius and seems to be working well so far.

I am so thankful to be able to have some peace when outside with Woody and that I don't have to have a panic attack every time he heads near the fence or in the direction of the shed!
