Woody's First Day

Woody is going to take over the blog for a bit I'm sure and here's a little about his very first day with us:

Lauren and I excitedly drove from Richmond to Fredericksburg on the morning of July 27 to pick up Woody.  The two weeks between when we picked our puppy out and when we picked our puppy up felt like an eternity to Lauren!  Traffic was a mess on 95 due to construction which made it even worse since it delayed us by a good 40 minutes!

After we arrived, I took this picture of us before we went in just to capture the joyful moment with my little girl.

After going over some information, the breeder snapped a picture of us on my phone before we headed out to start a new chapter with this little guy.  I love how he was instantly curious, playful, and loving, giving kisses from the moment we picked him up!

Our first stop was a trip to the vet!  Not ideal timing, but since the breeder requires a vet visit within three days to ensure her health guarantee on the dog we just wanted to get it over with since we were already halfway there as it was.  As expected, he got a great checkup...and he even fell asleep in Lauren's arms in the exam room!

Introductions to the human family members went great, but Woody was not met with as much enthusiasm by the four-legged members!  In fact, weeks later Vinny is still muzzled when Woody is out 😞  Puddin tolerates him, but also puts him timeout when necessary and he listens.  However, we are just not sure about Vinny...he's just too excited and chases Woody whenever he runs and because Woody is still so little we need to protect everyone!

By evening, Lauren was completely exhausted from the excitement of the day and even asked to go to bed which never happens!  She scooped up her new best friend and exclaimed that "today was the best day of my life"!

Woody sleeps in Lauren's bedroom in a playpen, and so it would appear that this day also marked the last time that Lauren slept in our bed!  Unfortunately, it just means that I have relocated to her room to help with overnight supervision and the early morning potty breaks!  I admit that I wasn't ready to let go of her anyway, I just wish her bed was as comfortable as mine!
