Where's The Love?

I mentioned in my last post about the kids' bedtime snack.  They started out just getting a Milk Bone, then Tracy started making homemade chicken jerky for them so they got a piece of that also.  Recently though, he gave up on the jerky since it does take a while to make.  Instead, he now bakes a couple chicken breasts each week and cuts them into strips so they each get a piece of chicken every night.  I know, they're spoiled rotten, but this little routine is my husband's doing, not mine!  I have always gone to bed earlier than him so he does the last potty break and gets their treats out before coming to bed.  As soon as he turns the TV off, Buford makes a beeline up the stairs and into our bedroom.  The girls race up and wait at the top of the stairs for him to get there.  They are all doing a little happy dance in anticipation of their treats!  Once they all get in the bedroom, Tracy closes the door.  First he gives them each a Milk Bone and then goes into the bathroom to brush his teeth.  They eat the Milk Bone in a hurry just to make sure they're ready for the good stuff.  Once he comes out of the bathroom, they each get their chicken, then go to their beds and settle down for a good nights rest; all is right with the world!

Well, at least how it used to be!  It has been nearly four weeks since we moved Lauren out of our bedroom and into the nursery.  Once she went into her room, we started sleeping with our bedroom door open - and everything changed!  Macy has not spent one single night in our bedroom since!  Buford has only spent three or four nights with us since!  And Puddin, well she's still a sweetheart and stays in the room with us - at least we have one out of three that still loves us!

Puddin is such a good girl and she gets extra lovin' now since she's the only one who stays with us. Lauren is still waking once a night to eat and Puddin will often follow me into the nursery and lay beside me while I'm nursing Lauren and then follow me back into our bedroom once I put Lauren back to sleep - what a love!

They all still race upstairs to get their snacks each night, then Macy turns right around and heads back down and Buford usually follows her!  I gotta admit, it's very disheartening and makes me feel like they were only sleeping in our room because they were trapped!

I can't understand it!  I mean Macy and Buford's personalities haven't changed otherwise and they act completely normal the rest of the day.  They get excited to see us in the morning when we come downstairs like they missed us or something.   I thought it may have something to do with the baby, like maybe Macy is saying "hmph, I'll show you!", but the dogs all act the same around Lauren too.  They're very good with her and usually give her kisses on her head or her feet - yes, even Queen Macy.

So, I ask...where's the love?

They love you I am sure. Maybe they are just going through a phase. :)

I don't think we will ever figure out why our greys do the things they do. They are such funny dogs.

:-)
You just have to know they love you, even when they want their own space- just wait until Lauren is a teenager!

When Hawk was still with us, we used to put the baby gate up to keep everyone in the bedroom or he'd near pace himself to death with worry, trying to keep tabs on where everyone is. Since his passing, we leave the gate down and the choice is up to the girls. Lilac usually beats us in there and is asleep on her bed before we get in there. Often, Blueberry likes to stay out in the living room for a while though. It happens in the summer and I think that it's because it's cooler in the living room at night, and she doesn't like to be close when she sleeps. There's no sleep aggression, she just like her space. Bunny often waits a little bit before coming in and curling up with us on hot nights, too! She can't resist being in there for long, though. Perhaps your two are cooler downstairs or like having a little space.

Macy is probably just trying something new, and Buford is along for the ride. They'll be back in no time.

Our seem to migrate back and forth based on the weather. Or so I tell myself. ;)
