Separation Anxiety

I debated whether I wanted to include this or not, but it has certainly been a big part of our lives with Buford so here it is. When we leave, Buford's separation anxiety has led him to quite a bit of trouble in the past, but nothing that was harmful in any way. That all changed on August 11 when we found that he had chewed up several items, inlcuding newspapers, a remote control, and...a sewing kit, including needles! He acted completely normal and continued to play with his toys while I cleaned up the mess. The next morning I took him to the vet to get x-rayed just to be on the safe side. I was devasted to learn that he had four and a half needles in his stomach! Tracy came home from work and we took him to have emergency stomach surgery that day at The Hope Center in Vienna where they have board certified surgeons. Dr. Taylor performed the surgery. It went very well and Buford came home the next day, on August 13 (we even have a bag with all of the stuff they pulled out, inlcuding lots of plastic and of course the needles). It must have been more traumatic for him, but I was so upset that sometimes I wonder.

Here is a picture of our sweet boy when he came home.
And here he is 10 days later, what a difference.
